Bel-Ray Super B Honda’s Juan Carlos Salvatierra endured a tough day at the office yesterday in difficult conditions, but moved further up the order after a top 50th position in the special to end day five of the Dakar rally in 72nd overall. Daniel Willemsen is leading the rest of the mostly Dutch team riders, that have all finished the stage.
Update Friday January 6th
With snow on the course, which has caused day six of the rally to be cancelled, yesterday’s stage was super-tough for the riders taking the Chilecito to Fiambalá course. The course length was shortened due to bad weather, and riders had to wait in areas with stranded competitors blocking the road. Salvatierra managed to negotiate the stage successfully, with all supported riders also returning back to base for the team.
With conditions not improving, today’s special through Fiambala to Copiapo has been cancelled and riders are now travelling the distance of the course to Chile to start tomorrow’s stage seven of 15 of the rally. The team is well prepared with engines and equipment to beat the cold, as well as specialist equipment such as oxygen to aid them in the tough conditions.
