Bad Weather Makes Dakar Day Two Progress Tough For Bel-Ray Super B Honda

Bel-Ray Super B Honda riders Quinn Cody, Sam Sunderland and Juan Carlos Salvatierra endured a tough day for stage two of the Dakar rally with Cody ending the day in 20th place, Sunderland suffering a technical issue and Carlos finishing just inside the top 150.
After a strong start yesterday, Cody began today’s 487km stage from Santa Rosa De La Pampa to San Rafael in fourth place aboard his CRF 450X. The American pilot was making good progress, when a loss of time between waypoint two and the end of the 295km special meant he concluded the day in 20th position.
Difficult weather conditions in 40 degree heat with wind and rain made the day super tough, especially for Sunderland who started the morning in seventh place. The British racer, who is taking part in his first ever Dakar rally, dropped to 11th place in the opening part of the special and then disappeared off the timing screens, as he was forced to stop at CP1 with an electrical issue. The team is now working through the night to take parts to Sunderland to get him up and running as soon as possible. Salvatierra completed the day in 146th position after crashing, but has made it through to the end of the stage.
Henk Hellegers: Bel-Ray Super B Honda Team Owner
“Today has been a tough day for us. Conditions are really difficult with a lot of wind and rain. In 40 degrees of heat it’s certainly been hard, and Quinn lost some time today so he is now in 20th place. For Sam he is currently stuck at CP1 with an electrical issue. We are getting the parts to him and hopefully we can get him back in the race as soon as possible. It’s been a frustrating day as we started out so well but we will keep working hard.”
Other notable performances from Honda riders include Honda Racing Argentina’s Javier Pizzolito, who lies in seventh place and  Daniel Gouet of the Tamarugal Honda Racing XC Rally Team, who ends the second day in 17th position.
